Pearls of wisdom IV

CONVENTION HOTEL?

Yes! Definitely. If you can afford it, stay at the convention hotel.

It makes life so much easier.

Why?

Schedule's packed. If you want to see everything and do everything (or almost everything), you won't have any free time. And sometimes a person just has to go (for whatever reason: food, clothes - that'll look better in photo ops, not clothes in general, that bloody ticket you forgot, make-up emergency, really short power nap...) to their room. Which kinda becomes mission impossible if it takes you more than an elevator ride to get there.

And let's not forget the fact that karaoke and dessert party end around 1 am. It could be cold outside, it could be raining or snowing, it's definitely dark... Do you really wanna go brave the weather and spend your precious I-could-be-sleeping-right-now time on making your way to another hotel? Yeah, I thought so.

And of course, the 6 am Sunday breakfast. When you're operating on 4 hours of sleep and trying to:
- find something to wear
- get rid of your bedhead
- apply make-up without poking your eyes out...
and all that while running late, when every second counts,
staying at the convention hotel is a lifesaver. (Or at least a nervessaver.)

And believe me, on Sunday night, after you survive all the panels, photo ops and autographs AND waiting in line for 2 hours to buy JPEGs, and your feet are killing you because of those damn high-heeled photo op shoes, and you're too exhausted to move, you'll pat yourself on the back for choosing to stay at the convention hotel. Well, no, you won't. Cause you won't have the energy. But you'll be thinking about it.

Possibility of being paid for the job is very little... (sic)

Now there's something I always wanna see, nay, something I LOOK FOR in a job ad. *thumbs up*

Magnificus Films are going to shoot a movie (fantasy, inspired by ancient times) here in Cro and are looking for English speaking actors and who-the-hell-cares-if-they-speak-English-or-not extras.

Now, as fun as the whole thing sounds (and if it turns out they are legit, it really could be fun), I'm sorry, but this whole we-ain't-paying-you-a-dime thing just makes them seem unprofessional. It's like they're just playing around. I wonder if they'll find extras willing to work for free. What the hell am I saying? We're in Cro. Of course they won't.

"Besides, if I care enough to pretend that I can act during filming, they could at least care enough to pay me for my trouble." (famous quote by E.J. McRae)

Weeping Willow

Imagine how fitting this title would be if my name was actually Willow.

Cause I just realized something. There's no way in hell that I can afford J&J photo op for JIBcon.

And that's a heartbreaking realization.

Mostly because I always get one of those - it's a tradition by now and not getting a J&J photo op just feels... wrong.

But also because... It's a freakin' photo op with Jensen!!! and Jared!!!

Need I say more?

Lower room rate? Sounds good. In theory.

First day of BurCon is March 2nd, so it stands to reason that some of us who'll be needing a whole day to get to Burbank might want to get there at least on Wednesday since Wednesday actually means 7pm so it's almost Thursday anyway. (I have to have at least one buffer day for my jet lag issues. Plus, there's always a possibility that something'll go wrong somewhere along the very long way and if I'm getting stranded, I'd prefer to be stranded on Wednesday and/or Thursday and not on Friday.)
But if you want those lower than normal rates, I dare you to try and book a room from Feb 29th. Sorry, no can do. However, Marriott does offer that lower rate until March 7th. Hello! Convention ends on March 4th. What's up with all the extra days?

Don't get me wrong, these lower rates are a great thing (especially in Vancouver, cause OMG, Sheraton is beyond expensive) and it's not like hotels have to offer them so thanks for that, but I really don't see the point here. Cause unless I want to make two reservations (and spend half of Thursday checking out, waiting for hours and then checking in again), this lower rate might as well be nonexistent.

The original plan was to stay until Tuesday, but I guess I won't be able to. :( And I really hate flying back home on Monday because I'm always so exhausted from everything that happened on Sunday. But one less day at Marriott saves me $240, so it's not like I really have a choice here.

I'm not happy about it though. :(

UPDATE
Sept 19th - Lower room rate? Sounds good, full stop.

SILVER TICKET

Silver tickets are virtually unsalable and... *thinks* No, actually that's pretty much it. You'll have to give a huge discount if you want to get rid of them. Sorry.

DESSERT PARTY

To go or not to go?

Well...

Don't get me wrong, I usually go, but it definitely IS skipable. It mostly comes down to how badly you want a chance to maybe talk to some of the actors. I mean, yeah, talking to other fans is great and I'm pretty sure they have some kind of desserts there (right?), but the "party" usually goes on until the wee hours of the morning which makes for some very tired ppl at breakfast and Jensen and Jared photo ops on Sunday morning. And nobody wants bags under their eyes in their once-ish in a life time photo ops with Js.

So, as great as a nice chat with a netbook stealing Misha is *grins*, sometimes a person just needs their beauty sleep.

*sigh* Moneybookers

Y'know how they say, if you have nothing nice to say about something, don't say anything? Yeah, fat chance of that.

I mean, I'm pretty sure there has to be something good about Moneybookers, I just haven't found it yet. It's obviously very well hidden.

Five days ago I wanted to pay for JIB photo ops with Moneybookers.

I'm still trying to find out how to do that.

Cause why would they make it easy if it can be complicated. Moneybookers' goal: Let us NOT be user-friendly, with a capital N, O and T apparently.

My Moneybookers account is held in $. And therein lies the problem. I'm reasonably sure that it's possible to send euro even if your account is held in $, it's just impossible to find out exactly how to do that. And I have no intention of using the ole trial and error method. I'm still stuck on step 1: uploading funds. How many $ do I have to upload if I want to send someone €300? There are fees for this and fees for that, for sending money, for currency conversion, for using my credit card... For heaven's sake, I just want to log in, type the amount and send it!!!

I'm slightly ticked off. Can you tell?

I really, really hope JIB will go back to accepting PayPal. (I'm sure PayPal has its flaws, but I never had any problems with it. *knocks on wood*)
Or better yet, they should just let us pay with a credit card. Like Creation Entertainment. It's easy and it's cheaper and it doesn't end with me having a headache for the rest of the day because I had to go to the bank to transfer money and my head really hates summer temperatures.

No, really, what's up with that? :( Why can't we just go to JIB website, order tickets and pay with a credit card? I'm gonna hazard a guess here and say that it has something to do with the whole donating contributions thing. If they can't sell the tickets, they could just put a Donate button on their website and problem solved. It wouldn't be the first time I donated money for photo ops, but this would be SO much easier and cheaper.

Dating coordinator

When I saw the words dating coordinator (m/f), I kinda thought - probably speed dating. Then I read the ad and a few things on their website. Now I'm mostly thinking - pimp/madam.

I mean, the pay is excellent. Almost twice what I'm making!! And there's stuff on their website that can be somewhat misleading (like their guide to oral sex). But yeah, it could go either way, really.

Somebody remind me - just how desperate am I to get a well paid part-time job?
